2008/2009 SEASON

October 26, 2008

New York Festival of Song

The Annual Barbara and Edmund Delaney Young Artist Concert

In creating his "New York Festival of Song" program "The Last Time I Saw Paris", Steven Blier, teacher, pianist scholar, vocal coach and personality extraordinaire, has created a new idiosyncratic art form. With mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne and tenor Paul Appleby singing French songs from Albert Roussel to music hall songs of Charles Trenet, a vision of Paris in all its moods and history is created.

Manhattan Brass Jazz Quintet

The award winning Manhattan Brass Quintet, currently in its 15th season, is best known for its innovative programming, dynamic performances and varied eye-opening repertoire. Members of the Manhattan Brass include legendary trumpeter Lew Soloff and virtuoso bass trombonist David Taylor. Individually they have played with all the greats of the music world and been nominated for numerous Grammies, but their strength is their vision as an ensemble, bringing brass ensemble playing to another level.

April 5, 2009

St. Petersburg String Quartet

Since being formed at the Leningrad Conservatory, the St. Petersburg has blazed a trail through international competitions, a Grammy nomination and appearances at all the great concert halls in the world. Their performances have been described as "impassioned ... unassailable technique and intonation ... an astonishingly calibrated range of voicing and dynamics ... luscious tonal blend and phrasing that surged with ardor ... vibrantly human, with a youthful exuberance and romantic passion." They are one of the world's great string quartets.

John McCutcheon folk singer

No one is able to blend traditional music and original material with the ease, grace and emotional power of John McCutcheon. A great instrumentalist and an engaging singer, he creates a bond with his audience that touches every emotion from laughter to reflection and sadness. His last sold out performance in Chester was superlative, and he is returning by popular demand.
